Set within the Derbyshire countryside, the wellness studio forms part of the continued evolution of Breedon Priory Spa, recently awarded Best Spa in the East Midlands and East at the Good Spa Guide Awards. The building provides a dedicated space for fitness, movement and wellbeing, complementing the wider spa facilities.
The architectural approach focused on creating a structure that sits naturally within the landscape while maintaining a strong contemporary identity. Vertical timber cladding, generous glazing and a simple linear form allow the building to blend into the surrounding woodland setting while maximising natural light and views across the countryside.
Internally, the studio provides a flexible and open environment designed to support a range of wellness activities, from strength training and movement sessions to private coaching and group classes.

The design prioritises a calm and restorative atmosphere, with natural materials, soft tones and large openings that connect the interior spaces with the surrounding landscape. The building’s deep overhang and terrace create sheltered outdoor areas, allowing activities to extend beyond the interior and encouraging a stronger relationship between the wellness experience and the natural environment.
By combining contemporary architecture with a sensitive response to its rural context, the wellness studio enhances the wider spa offering while reinforcing Breedon Priory’s identity as a destination focused on wellbeing, relaxation and connection with nature.
